Hello Nic,
I just happened to be looking through my messages and re-read our correspondence back in 07 on the forum. I was reminded that you were working on a writing/tutoring course. How is that coming? I am working on putting together a non-credited course for our TUMI Satellite that would focus on teaching basic writing skills and gain confidence in the student's writing to assist in their Exegetical papers. It is not a required class, but something that can be offered to those who wish to take it. There are so many resources out there, but since you are familiar with TUMI and our purpose and goal to equip and train the urban poor for God's Kingdom, are there any curriculum or resources that you would recommend? I basically want to create perhaps an 8 week class (2 hours each including lab) that would cover basic writing skills and tips in a creative way that would allow the students to actually enjoy writing, rather than seeing it simply as an assignment. Most of our students have not gone to college and have been out of school for 20-30 years. So a 5 page paper can be pretty intimidating, although, since I grade only on their context, not grammer, they realize that they can do it. However, I would like to help them in their writing skills.
Sorry for the long message, but I thought I'd check in with you in case you had any ideas and/or suggestions. Thanks, Nic! Hope all is well with you. God bless.
